Dean Lacy made a clean sweep of our Joyden’s Wood races this season by adding the 10 mile trophy to those for the 5 and 7.5 milers. James MacDonald was second and Michael Duncan of Kent AC in third place was the first guest runner. Ian Miller in fifth place was the third Cambridge Harrier; in addition to his bronze medal he also won the Joyden’s Wood Trophy which we award to the Cambridge Harrier with the best overall performance across all three races who has not already won a trophy for an individual win. Special mention too to Luke Ford whose performances have been coming on in leaps and bounds recently: Luke and Ian ran most of the race together with Luke just missing out on a bronze medal in a sprint finish.
The first two women’s places were a repeat of those in the 7.5 mile race two weeks earlier: Nicole Bonnet of Plumstead Runners winning with Cambridge’s Sue Dixon second. Tony Durey and Anoushka Johnson who hardly ever miss one of these races arrived at the start a couple of minutes or so after the gun but set off together and gradually worked their way through the field for Anoushka to finish third lady.
It is always harder to attract runners to the 10 mile race than to the shorter distances but this year we had 53 entries of whom 50 finished, we even had some chaps down from Norfolk!
