This month’s YDL took place on a royally glorious day in Dartford, where the organisers very kindly put the royal wedding festivities on the TV in the cafeteria area so that those athletes who wanted to could nip in and catch glimpses of the royal wedding taking place on this beautiful day, which I thought was a lovely touch. The under 15s girls put in some solid performances both in the field and on the track, although we were again minus quite a few of our under 15s athletes so unfortunately were unable to field a 4x300m relay team. The athletes who did turn up put in good performances, and although we didn’t have the numbers to cover every event we were still a team to contend with and it certainly looks promising for promotion next season.
A special well done and thank you to all those jumping into events they don’t usually compete in for points for the team, Kacey Walters and Elizabeth Zebo who both jumped last minute into the javelin (after quick lessons from the officials just before the event!), coming 2nd in A String and 1st in the B string respectively, and Maia on her team debut who jumped into the discus event coming 3rd place. A win for Kacey in the A string high jump with 1.55m and a 2nd place in the B string for Amirat with a jump of 1.30m. Back to the track where there were new PBs for Tianna in both the 100m & 200m sprints where she ran 13.1 (4th Place) and 28.2 (3rd place) respectively. Cleo and Amirat also gained new PBs on the day in 100m. The 800m was well represented with Ailbhe gaining a new season’s best of 2.25.4 and 2nd place and Madeline coming in 1st place in the B division with a new PB of 2.31.5. Another win for Kacey in the A string shot put with a throw of (9.96m) with Cleo coming first place in the B string with (9.02m new PB) which saw our points tallying up for the day.
