Assembly League 2018: Dates

Midweek Assembly League (Thursday evenings).

The Assembly League was ‘set up in the mid 1970s as competition between the London Business houses, such as the banks, stock-exchange, Post Office and major local employers (many since closed) such as Molins and Johnson & Phillips at Deptford’, the latter two engineering firms who at one time had big factories in South London. As industries have vanished from London along with their sports clubs, the League has shifted to consisting largely of established running clubs from the London/Kent area. Teams from Stock Exchange Athletics Club and Lloyds keep up the workplace running tradition, with other teams taking part this year including Kent AC, Eton Manor, Dulwich Runners, Serpentine Running Club, Dartford Road Runners, Victoria Park Harriers, Petts Wood Runners, Beckenham Running Club, Eton Manor Athletics Club, Ravensbourne School, London Underground AC and Aquila. The six, approx. 5kms races run from April to September at several venues, normally Battersea Park, Victoria Park and Beckenham Running Club clubhouse. This year a different venue has been added, Tottenham Marshes (more details to be advised by the organiser). There are individual categories and a coveted team competition for this great series of sharpeners and a good opportunity for track stars to excel. As with most events, there are all shapes and sizes participating so it is far from elitist! The dates are;

I’m exploring the possible use of the minibus for these events, subject to availability, so that travelling might be easier. If you’re interested in taking part, please contact Steve Brown at brown.stephen@ntlworld.com
