Dean Lacy celebrated his birthday by winning the Club 7.5 for the umpteenth time. One day he will be beaten in one of these races, but this was not that day, not quite: Dean built up a comfortable buffer that at one stage exceeded 30 seconds but in the second half of the last lap Bayley Massey put in a terrific charge to cut Dean’s winning margin to just 4 seconds. Chris Biddle of Dartford Harriers was third a minute and a half back followed by Gregory Hills of new Nunhead based club Runhead.
In sixth place and taking the bronze medal for being third Cambridge Harrier was Steve Groom and our team of four was completed by Ian Miller in 9th. We introduced a team competition in these races at the start of last season and at last the home side won with Datrford Harriers in second place.
First lady was Nicole Bonnett of Plumstead Runners followed by Cambridge’s Susan Dixon with Sally Kyle of Dartford Road Runners third.
There was another good turn out with over 80 of us enjoying a race in ideal conditions. If you missed it you only have to wait two weeks for the next one: the Club 10 is on 12th January.
It was some hours later that I realised that I didn’t have a photo to go with this report so I had to drag the birthday boy out into the pub car park for an impromptu photo-shoot.
