In the traditional curtain raiser to the new cross country season congratulations go to Louise Knight, first lady in the “Club 5”, first lady but not first female, that honour went to David Reader’s dog Mabel. Second lady was Susan Dixon with Sally Haffenden of Blackheath & Bromley third. The men’s race was won by Sam Coombes of Dartford Harriers despite taking an interesting diversion on the first small lap. Second in the race and winner of the gold medal as first Cambridge runner was Steve Groom followed by Luke Ford whose performances have been improving dramatically of late. In fifth place and taking the Club bronze medal was David Reader (plus Mabel). Graham Maynard in 14th was our fourth finisher ensuring that the home team took the team prize for once. Further back Keith Dungate was the first to finish out of the three of the Club’s over 70s that ran, surely a record.
