For the third Kent League fixture of the season at Sparrow’s Den the regulars of our senior men’s squad were joined by new member Tarbo Fukazawa and also by Roderick Cookey who was stepping up from the Under 20s for the first time. We were also joined on the start line by Scott Overall making one of his rare appearances in The League for Blackheath & Bromley.
So all of us, from Dean Lacy in 8th place down to back-markers Stanley Thomas and Mike Simmons gutsily ensuring that we took points in the twelve to score team competition, can say that we were beaten by a GB Olympian that day. We needn’t dwell too long on what his winning margin over us was (but in case you are wondering, he won the race in 29:23, only 12 seconds clear of Tonbridge’s 20 year old Corey De’ath).
