Kent XC Championships – Senior Men

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

Danny Kendall in 13th (and first M40) was our first finisher at the Kent Champs. No one (including Dean himself) can remember the last time that Dean Lacy was beaten by another Cambridge Harrier in a cross country race, but on the day Danny was just too strong for him.

The front of the race had something of a changing of the guard feel to it: you have to go back at least 12 years to find the last time that this event was not won by one of John Gilbert, Mike Coleman or Dean, but this time the old guard were blown away by the youngsters from Tonbridge who took all of the first four positions, Ben Cole being the eventual winner.

Our six to score team was completed by James MacDonald, Dave Worden, Steve Groom and David Reader and came 6th. A little further back Frank Hudson, running his first cross country race in a Cambridge vest, had the honour of being the final counter in the twelve to score team which he helped to come 4th.

Special mention too to Alan Black, second over 60 behind Steve Smythe and first M65.

As always the Brands Hatch course was decidedly bleak, a bumper turnout of 21 of us were grateful to the club tent for giving shelter from a biting Northerly wind.
