We had another good turnout for the second Kent League fixture at Somerhill School, Tonbridge. Most I think would agree that this is the toughest and the best of the courses that the League has to offer, although this year it was less tough than usual, the dry summer having accounted for a complete absence of mud, but the hills were still there!
Dean Lacy’s rehabilitation from injury seems to be well on track, an 18th place two weeks ago being followed by a 4th place here in a race in which he was always in contention and finished just half a minute behind the winner, Dartford Harriers’ Jake Wightman. David Reader had one of his highest positions ever in the League, finishing 26th, closely followed by Steve Hodges who had driven to the event straight from Gatwick and rounded off his holiday with a fine 29th. Steve Groom (49th) completed the 4-to-score team which was 5th (again).
There was then a bit of a gap before Graham Maynard lead home the club’s 50-somethings (and the 60-somethings). In the 12-to-score team event we were 7th from 7, but at least we had a team!
