For the first Kent league match of the season we made the short journey to Bromley. It was great to see so many boys turn out and not only fill the scoring places but almost all of the non-scoring places too. With so many of the boys trying out different events in a competition environment it gave them some vital experience and the team a strength in depth that will count as the season progresses.
The results show that the U13 boys team came 3rd out of 8 teams, just 1 point behind Tonbridge in 2nd and 6 points behind the winners, Bexley – a fantastic result!
We had 2 individual winners on the day (Nico & Ethan) and a further 7 top 3 finishes (Nico & Theo both twice + Ethan, Liam & Thomas) but it’s being able to turn out a full team that really makes the points tot up. Each point really does make a difference and an example of how thin the margins can be is that Ethan came 4th in the long jump but was only 6cm behind 1st place (a position he could have maybe improved upon had he not spiked himself during his first jump leading to a trip to the St.John’s tent).
We had at least a dozen PB’s from the team, as well as the following AAA grade achievements: 200m – Temi & Ethan both achieved Grade 4 1500m – Ethan, Grade 3 Long jump – Ethan, Grade 4 Discuss – Nico, Grade 2 Javelin – Nico, Grade 4
In addition to the individual performances the scoring 4×100 relay team were a second quicker than last time out in a time that was only bettered twice by the 4×100 team last season. My man of the match this week is Ethan for achieving 3 PB’s all of which were AAA grade standard.
