Dean Lacy managed to emulate Holly Dixon’s third place in the earlier women’s race. He ran most of the distance in isolation in third place before being caught by Tom Aldred (Heathside) on the last lap, but he managed to stay on his shoulder and to outsprint him in the home straight. The race was won by a Heathside U20 who we had never heard of (Seyfu Jamaal) with Chris Smith, a more familiar name to those who run on the fells as well as cross country, in second.
Dean’s training partner Bayley ran well for 7th place, next was James MacDonald (73rd) turning out for the first time since his 2:31 in the Chicago marathon with the team of four being completed by David Reader (138th), finishing just one place ahead of Tarbo Fukazawa. We also welcomed back Josh Lawless after a two year lay-off with a string of injuries. In the team competition we came 8th, our highest place since 2013.
In all 13 of us answered the call of the legendary Parliament Hill mud, although only 12 show in the results, Peter Hadley having forgotten to put his timing chip on his ankle (doh!). Most of us also answered the call of the now traditional Belsize Park pub crawl which rounded off an excellent day.
