CRYSTAL PALACE
A fantastic event on a glorious day that was seemingly well attended by all of the London Boroughs, except for one. The Greenwich team consisted of just two athletes for the track and field edition of the LYG, Madeline Tynan and Ethan Fiore, both Cambridge Harriers. The middle distance runners have had strong seasons in their first year as U15’s and this meant a 100% medal success rate for Greenwich.
A time trial format was in place for the 800m meaning that Madeline and Ethan had to wait for confirmation of their final placings. A strong run of 2.28.5 by Madeline secured a pb as well as clinching a place on the podium, taking home the bronze medal. Ethan, in the weakest heat, had to front run to secure a medal and although his time of 2.14.4 was a couple of seconds outside his pb it was enough to claim the fastest time and the gold medal. Great running in hot conditions by both athletes and great support by stand in team manager Richard Tynan.
