For the 4th consecutive match this season, we ended up with two individual victories for the team. Paris Hunt got his first victory in the SCVAC league with a season-best throw of 34.54m in a closely-contested M50 Javelin in which just 9cm separated the top three. Tim Carter was our other winner, also producing a season-best time of 28.6s in the M60 200m. Other highlights were 2nd place finishes for John Murphy and Wole Odele in the M50 2000m walk and High Jump. Peter Wishart and Wole also finished 3rd in the M50 shot and 200m.
The match kicked off with the High Jump and Shot-Putt starting simultaneously. Paris dropped down an age group to compete in the M35 High Jump event, coming 5th on countback with 1.35m. Wole came 2nd on countback in the M50 event with 1.5m and Tim was 4th in the M60 with 1.1m.
Stanley Thomas dropped down an age group to come 4th in the M35 Shot-putt, with 8.13m and Peter Wishart was 3rd in the M50 with 9.83m.
The 3rd event was the 200m where Stanley took a break from the shot and dropped down an age group to place 6th in the difficult A-string (28.0s). Ray Daniel also dropped down 2 age groups to come 6th in the B-string and possibly out of contention for the next match with a hamstring injury. Wole (26.2s) and Tim (28.6s) also took breaks from the High Jump to come 3rd and 1st in the M50 and M60 races. Warwick dropped down an age group to place 4th in the M60 event with a throw of 14.94m.
The action moved back to the track where the 1500m competitions were run as a single race. James MacDonald made his SCVAC league debut to come 5th in the A-string (4:34.8) and Matthew Preston also came 5th in the B-string race finishing in 4:45.4. Christian Poulton was due to compete in the M50 race, but with disruptions on the train line to Dartford, he couldn’t make it down and Mark Ashby, who had come down for a non-scoring run, duly filled in to place 5th in 5:25.4. Ian McCarthy had a non-scoring run, finishing in 5:47.2. Tonbridge AC’s video of the combined M35 & M50 races as well as non-scoring races can be seen below:
