Edmund, Chris and Neb after dominating M35 1500m

Monday 9th May saw the return of the SCVAC League after a two year break. There was a buzz from all the teams at getting back to this competition. Firstly, there was a lot of very positive feedback from all of the managers afterwards about how well organised this meeting was, so a big thank you to Barry Ferguson for organising all of the officials and to the officials themselves who made the meeting possible.

Chris Loudon - winning M35 1500m

Cambridge Harriers men started the season in Division 1, after being promoted due to the non-entry of one team from three years ago. We came a creditable 4th out of 6, only 4 points behind 3rd place and only 6 points behind 1st place, winning in 5 of the 12 individual events.

Team performer of the night must go to multi-eventer Paris Hunt winning the M60 100m in 14.0, 3rd in the M50 discus 25.83, 5th in the pole vault in 1.30, he only did 1 jump, but all 3 events were at the same time and finally starting of the 4x100m relay.

Wole Odele, running for the first time in over 6 months and still recovering from a hip-cartilage injury, won the M50 100m in 14.0. Constant Serugo was 6th in the M35 100m in 14.5 and Tim Carter (M65) 6th in the M35B 100m in 16.1, also making a comeback after a 2-year injury absence. All the 100m races were run into a blustery headwind.

Peter Wishart won the M60 discus with 34.76m with Michael Pape 5th in the M35 with 17.78m, opting out of the sprints to protect his sore Achilles.

The M35 1500m was very exciting with Chris Loudon leading all the way to win in 4.14.1, Edmund Adigwe won the B string in 4:24.8. Our strength in this event had Nebojsa Jovanovic, just behind, non-scoring in 4:26.1. Dom Fiore was 4th in the M50 in 5:02.8. Also non-scoring in the 1500m, was James Macdonald in 4:50.8, Matthew Preston in 4:58.5 and Mark Ashby in 5:40.7. Richard Lewis completed the non-scoring 100m in 15.6s.

The evening ended with the 4x100m that saw Paris, Constant, Edmund and Neb finish a creditable 4th in 53.0.
