Erith 17th June 2022
Our second meeting in the SVAC league was on the hottest day of the year at Erith. Mark Ashby maintained a solid 2nd after the 1st lap in the M60 800, finishing in 2:47. Shouts from his team mates and looking back himself meant he could take it relatively easy to save himself for the 2000m walk, only being able to recover while the women's 20000m walk took place. Even so, he easily won the walk by over 40 seconds in 11:52 with all the other competitors in the M50 group.
John Murphy (M65) took on the M35 2000m walk missing 3rd by 3/10ths of a second with 13:54.5. .
Still unable to run, Michael Pape took on the M35 shot put achieving 3rd with a PB of 8.32. Similarly M60 Peter Wishart stepped up to M50 throwing 8.78
Now the youngster in the M60 category Paris Hunt won the long jump with a leap of 4.52m, which would probably be an M60 club record if the club had official Masters club records. Tim Carter (M65) donned Michael Pape's unused Nike LJ shoes to get 3.80m in the M35 event and Wole came 3rd in the M50 with 4.42m.
Paris gained more valuable points in the M35 200 (28.6) along with M65 Richard Lewis (32.6) in the B string and Wole Odele (M55) coming 2nd in the M50 (27.1) despite being restricted to training on the elliptical machine.
The M35 800s looked tough not least in the heat, but close to the pace in both A string and B string were Neb Jovanovic 4th (2:08) and David Worden 3rd (2:15) respectively. Cristian Poulton (M55) ran the M50 in 2:35.
Despite competing in lower age categories for most events we all picked up points and stand a respectable joint 3rd of the six division 1 teams.
