With no M35-49 sprinters, jumpers or throwers available, a depleted team of 9 Cambridge Harriers made the short trip to Norman Park for the first match of this year’s Kent area league.
We had just 2 wins on the night, both coming in the 400m with Wole Odele and Ray Daniel scoring maximum points in the M50 and M60 events. Wole also came 2 nd in the M50 Triple Jump and 5 th in the M35 Pole Vault with a PB. Other highlights on the night were PBs for Matthew Preston and Dom Fiore, both placing 4 th in the M35 3000m A and B strings, respectively. Ian McCarthy also got a PB for his non-scoring 3k run, perhaps boosted by a dynamic triple jump warmup!
Ian only came down for the non-scoring 3k run, but with the M60 TJ slot unfilled, he offered to give it a go and after a quick training session with Paris Hunt, had fouls in his first 2 jumps but came good on the last jump to come 4 th and secure 3 valuable points! There were also 4th place finishes for Peter Wishart in the M50 Hammer and Mark Ashby in the M50 3k.
Paris earned valuable points to come 6 th in dropping down an age group for the M35 Triple Jump and Hammer as well as M50 Pole Vault. Stanley Thomas also dropped down an age group for the difficult A-string 400m.
Special thanks to the Cambridge officiating team of Christine Head-Rapson, Pauline Boorman, Barry Ferguson, Dave Kitcher & Richard Mann.
