Senior Women Kent League – Race 3

It has to be said that Danson Park is not a particularly exciting cross country course. Three times round the same field is reminiscent of a school cross country race around the hockey/ football pitch. Parking is also an issue. Nevertheless the senior women are always ready to run. This week we were missing a number of our faster runners so thank goodness for the ever reliable vets and for the U20 s who decided to join us. Sadly we did drop in the overall tables in both the team of three ( 9th)and the team of six (4th) competitions – the difference between us and higher teams was down to one or two places. A quick look at our results below show this amounts to just seconds for several places. So we can regain our medal positions in the last match.

Caroline Ford continued her excellent cross country form. She led the race from the gun on a fairly flat dry course which suited a middle distance runner. Unfortunately she misjudged the sprint to the finish and just got pipped for first place. U20 Molly Hawkins had a good start at the longer distance and was rewarded with 44th place. Next came new club members Sally Carr and her sister Susan Dixon. Then in quick succession Jo Murphy, Monica Whitefield and Susan Edwards. Another U20 Shelley Carr who only decided to run the longer distance at the last minute was next and last ( but by no means least) harrier was Maria MacDonald.

2 Caroline Ford 17.-39 44 Molly Hawkins 21.09 77 Sally Carr 23.15 84 Susan Dixon 23.24 93 Joanne Murphy 23.48 95 Monica Whitefield 24.15 101 Susan Edwards 24.33 112 Shelley Carr 25.12 123 Maria Macdonald 26.38
