A great team effort all round saw us win our opening match in the SAL. This was the first fixture at Sutcliffe since being resurfaced and remodelled last summer with the new indoor area and mostly everything went to plan. Jade Fitt and Fuad Busoir opened the day with wins in both the men’s and women’s 400 hurdles and there followed a steady stream of good performances and people filling in all afternoon. Our sprinters were as strong as ever winning ten out of a possible 12 races between 100 and 400 and including a 100,200 double for Wade Thompson. At the other end of the scale Ben Shearer had a great run in the 5k to win in with James MacDonald taking the B String. In the jumps Brandon Sikity had a busy afternoon competing in the High Jump, long Jump, triple Jump and Pole Vault and was ably backed up by Ben Stanbury (main picture) who had travelled down from Loughborough to compete. Ayanna Henry won the women’s Long Jump and Paige MacHeath the javelin. Abbie Stewart and Natalie Mann added . The sun shone and there was feeling of Athletics is great on a day like this. Big thank you to all those who came out and officiated or organised the results and refreshments to make the day work well
