The August Tonbridge open meeting took place in conjunction with the Kent County U13 Pentathlon Championships on a cloudy Bank Holiday Monday. Four Cambridge athletes competed in the open whilst the pentathlon featured 3 club members. Highlights of the open meeting were season's bests for Doug Lucas and Steve Tredray in the 100m and 400m respectively, plus a win for Wole Odele in 400m race 2. A report on the county U13 pentathlon is available here, and some of the pentathlon results and race videos are presented below.
From a standing start, Doug, giving away over 50 years to most of the competition, improved on his previous outing over 100m to finish in 14.45s. Steve was seeded in Lane 1 in the 3rd and fastest 400m race and ran about half a second faster than in his last race, to finish in 53.71s, just .01s short of equalling his PB! Wole started steadily in the second of three 400m races, surging into the lead with about 150m to go and did well to finish strong in a winning time of 57.09s, as his U17 and U20 opposition came back strongly for a close finish. Wole remains top of the European M55 rankings for 400m from his 56.08 clocking at Bromley two weeks ago.
In the field, Natalie Mann threw the 4kg shot 7.52m, her second best performance from 11 attempts this season.
