Indoor Track & Field - Silver for Hannah
At the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham over the weekend club athletes came away with two medals. In the women's 3000m race walk Hannah Hopper (U20) was involved in a three way battle for silver and bronze, with the lead changing a number of times. Coming off the final bend Hannah was lying third, but the athlete ahead of her moved out, probably to cover any possible pass on the outside, Hannah was able to move through on the inside and push to the line and take silver in a new personal best of 14:24.14. Just 58/100 of a second covered second to fourth places.
In the men's 3000m race walk Luc Legon (2nd claim) claimed bronze in an seasons best 13:15.66.
Sabrina Sinha just missed out on a medal finishing fourth in the women's 1500m, but she was rewarded with an indoor personal best of 4:19.61.
In the men's 60m Brandon Mingeli was unable to progress from his heat, crossing the line in fourth, stopping the clock at 6.93s.
Across the Atlantic Daniel Falode, who is studying at Harvard University, won the triple jump at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in New York, with his first round jump of 15.40m.
Road Running
On Thursday evening Clem Dixon finished 8th overall and first M60 at the Gravesend Floodlit 10km on the undulating Cyclopark course, recording a seasons best of 45:53.
The 6000+ runners at the Brighton Half-Marathon, which was started by Dame Kelly Holmes, included three Cambridge Harriers. Richard Piggford was the first club member to cross the line in 478th place with a time of 1:32:48. Darren O'Brien and Kate Mitchell came in together in 2:11:03.
