Lee Valley April Open, Lee Valley Athletics Centre (Sat. 6th Apr.)
The club’s junior hurdlers were out in force at a windy Lee Valley last Saturday, reports Mick Bond. Having moved up to the Under 17 age group Elijah Olaleye ran his first ever 400 hurdles race and showed how the event should suit him well , running a virtually solo 57.97s a time which would have ranked him in the UK top 10 U17’s last year. Sister Keziah showed things run in the family lowering her PB for the same event by more than two seconds with a time of 66.76s . Tomisin Awolowo and Reuben Chandler both set new or inaugural PBs in the U20 400 hurdles event with 62.70s and 65.57s respectively.
In the sprint hurdles the headwinds made fast running difficult but Lily Gayle won her U17 race comfortably in 12.36s. Elijah and training partner Hans Nmaju both had their first race over 100 hurdles as they moved up an age group. Hans just got the edge recording 14.32s to Elijah’s 14.34s into a 2.6m/s head wind. Hans latter recorded a very impressive 23.67s 200m into a 4m/s headwind.
