British Athletics Cross Challenge, Cardiff (Sat. 9th Nov. 2024)
Congratulations to Holly Dixon who finished 12th overall and 7th Briton at the Cross Challenge in Cardiff on Saturday.
Kent Cross Country League #3, Danson Park (Sat. 9th Nov. 2024)
In the young age groups Charlotte Foster (Bib 21) got things off to a good start for the club with second place in the under 13 girl's race. Lizzy Sanders (8th) and Esther Yeatman (16th) secured third team place, reports Mark Newell. Daisy O'Brien (17th) had her best race for the club. We had a much smaller turnout than usual from the under 13 boys, with only five toeing the line at the start. Herbie Tobin was, one again, first to finish for the club in 20th place.
We had five make the top 20 in the under 15 girl's race. Celia Yeatman (6th), Sophia-Rose Bonnar (8th) and Meredith Cummins (10th) had their highest place finish of the season. In the under 15 boy's race, Aytunde Dauda was our first finisher in 21st place. Three seconds separated our next two to cross the line (Alex Van Den Berg-Hows, 29th and Austin Richards, 30th).
In the under 17 men's race, Olly Buck equalled his performance from the previous fixture placing second. This puts him first in the overall standings. Another to finish in second place was Emer Tynan (Bib 381- U17W). She now stands second in the overall standings. Amelia Lawrence (Bib 422) had another strong run when finishing in 6th place in the under 20 women's race.
Senior men: For the third time in three Kent League races Bobby Babaker was our first finisher, 7th place this time leaving him in bronze medal position in the individual table, writes Clem Dixon. Ben Shearer (Bib 1022) outsprinted Danny Kendall (Bib 1005) to finish in front of him for the first time this season although Danny didn't help himself by ending up on the wrong side of the tape marking out the finishing straight and having to hurdle it! Danny remains ahead of Ben in the over 40s table where they are 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Kyle Hurst completed the 4 to score team with Mark Penny our 12th finisher in the 12 to score. A combination of us having a few big names missing and a particularly strong showing from Medway & Maidstone resulted in a 3rd place in the 4 to score and a disappointing 4th in the 12. But we remain in 2nd place in both tables, positions we can hang on to with a decent performance at the final fixture.
The senior men had 36 finishers equalling the record set at Foots Cray in the first race and comfortably more than any other club. We also continued our run of welcoming at least one new member to the squad at every race, this time it was the turn of Sebastian Onorati who seemed to enjoy the experience.
