SEAA Indoor U13/U15/U17 Championship's, Lee Valley (11th/12th Jan.)

The club had a record 22 athletes signed up for this event, reports Mick Bond, and with the outside temperature barely above freezing by mid-day it was nice to be indoors with the heating on! The South of England Championships draws athletes from Cornwall to Norfolk and the Lee Valley Centre was full all weekend with the 1,300 athletes competing plus a similar number of spectators.  The indoors are a good opportunity to check winter training progress and there was much to be pleased about for most of the club athletes.

Hans Nmaju was the outstanding performer of the weekend winning the Under 17 Men’s 60m hurdles in style, in a UK lead of 8.02s, which puts him in the UK top 20 all time and a sub 8 second run looks not far away. Training partner Elijah Olaleye improved as well in the same race with an 8.27s PB to snatch bronze, after giving everyone a head start going into the first hurdle, and then added to his medal tally with silver in the last race of the weekend the Under 17 Men’s 400m

In the field there were medals for Michael Bridge in the shot put (15.52m for silver ) and Daniel Obike in the U17 high Jump (1.90m for bronze) whilst Lizzie McKen just missed out in the U15 Girls long jump (4th with a PB 4.65m).

Back on the track the Under 15 Girls 800 was run as time trials due to the rules not allowing girls to run two 800m races in a day. The club was well represented with Lizzie Sanders, Esther Yeatman, Seren Yeatman and Charlotte Foster who ran the 3rd quickest time on the day thus taking bronze.

There were good runs by Luca Glyde-Jones with a two second PB over 400 (53.23s) whilst Charlotte Foster’s younger brother Max had his first outing for the club recording a decent 2:39.61s in the Under 13 Boys 800.

BMC Indoor Races, Cardiff (Sun. 12th Jan.)

Holly Dixon continued her fine winter form winning the BMC Women's A 1500m in a personal best of 4:15.50s.

Serpentine New Year's Day 10k, Hyde Park (Sun. 12th Jan.)

A change of date following Royal Park closures due to a storm warning saw the race, which takes place on the traffic-free paths through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, moved to last weekend. Bobby Babaker was the Club's only participant finishing second with a time of 33:18.
