Adidas Podium Home Nations 5k, Bute Park, Cardiff (Sun. 25th Aug.)

An international field of 74 women took to a fast paced 5k around Bute Park, Cardiff with Cardiff Castle in the background. Holly Dixon led the England team to third place behind Team Adidas and Wales with a fine run for fourth place in a personal best time of 15:51.

Kent Under 13’s Combined Events Championships, Tonbridge (Mon. 26th Aug.)

Miya Cook won the Kent County U13G Pentathlon title at the weekend with 2177 points, reports Deborah Cook, bettering the club record that had stood since 1993. 


Huge thanks to all of her coaches, Mick Bond on hurdles, Barry Ferguson on high jump, where she jumped a huge PB of 1.36m, Mark Newell - 800, Olu Olaleye, who doesn’t officially coach her, but always makes himself available to provide words of wisdom when she’s long jumping and to John Hiller and Myrtle Augee and the senior throws group, who have welcomed her with open arms and given her so much support and confidence.

Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC Summer Open, Norman Park (Mon. 19th Aug.)

There were a number of good performances by club athletes at the last B & B Summer Open at Norman Park, with a number of athletes securing personal bests.


Sprint PBs - Ilyas Shah (U15) clocked 11.84s over 100m. Elizabeth McKen (U15) ran 29.46s for 200m and Jayda Renee-McKenzie (U15) recorded 46.78s in the 300m.


Middle Distance PBs - over 800m Charlotte Foster (U15) and Phoenix London (U13) recorded 2:24.36s and 2:43.16s respectively. Phoenix also made his debut over the mile with a 6:01.52s clocking.


Throws PBs - in the discus for Sofia Carrillo (U20 - 34.02m) and Elizabeth McKen - shot 5.57m.


Barrow Fell Race, Keswick (Mon. 26th Aug.)

Amelia Lawrence took advantage of a family holiday in the Lake District to take on the Barrow Fell Race (6.5 km, 425 m ascent, cat AS) which unlike many other fell races has a minimum age as low as 15. The race is held in conjunction with the Keswick Show but this year Storm Lillian had left waterlogged car parks and flattened marquees in its wake; although the show was cancelled the race still went ahead. Amelia was second in the female U19 category (50th overall in 49:21).
