Weekly Update - 5th March 2025

Sutcliffe Indoor 60's, Eltham (Sun. 2nd Mar.)

The last of our indoor 60m promotions went off smoothly with the help of our great team of officials, who have supported the events through the winter, writes Mick Bond. Between them they helped 164 sprinters (including 21 Cambridge Harriers) race twice over 60m chasing season’s and personal bests. Entries were down from the 205 we got in February but held up well as the date clashed with Essex and East of England Championships at Lee Valley, Surrey and Sussex Championships at Sutton and a similar 60m open meeting at Windsor. Performance wise it was good to see three of the club’s sprinters making the women’s A final (Emily Cadman, Nirah Valinijad and Chrystal Izuchukwa) whilst new member Ayo Ariya ran a quick 7.08s in the first round of the men’s event. Dartford Half-Marathon (Sun. 2nd Mar.)

Fourteen Cambridge Harriers were among the one thousand plus runners shivering in the freezing fog in Central Park at the start of this year's Dartford Half, reports Clem Dixon. The race has grown considerably over the years and the organisation is now outsourced to Runthrough although you still get to finish on Dartford Harriers' distinctive blue running track. Road closures are now more comprehensive so you no longer need to go over the pesky footbridge, but the hills are still the same! The course is known for its picturesque views of the Darent Valley, but this year by the time that the sun had burnt off the morning mist most of us had already finished, or at least returned to the housing estates on the outskirts of Dartford.

Kyle Hurst (pictured) had a great run for 6th place in 1:14:54. Next home for the club was Anthony Mcginty finishing four seconds ahead of Stephen Thompson on the road, but Stephen had started further back and beat Anthony by ten seconds on chip time: I'm not sure who gets bragging rights there? This was the first counter in our club's road grand prix competition: scoring is based on age graded performance and last year's winner Rose Baker went straight to the top of the table with a 1:40:39 clocking. The race also incorporated the Kent Championships in which Rose picked up individual silver in her age category. (Race Results - CH GP League Table)

Murray Lambden Open Race Walks, Douglas, Isle of Man (Sun. 2nd Mar.)

Hannah Hopper (U23) won the mixed 10km by over three minutes with a PB of 50:10.

Brighton Half-Marathon (Sun. 2nd Mar.)

Delaney Brown and Roger Henderson travelled down to Sussex for the Brighton Half finishing in 1:48:43 and 1:49:48 respectively.
