Weekly Update - 6th Nov. 2024

EnergyVision Cross Cup, Roeselare, Belgium (Sun. 27th Oct.)

Holly Dixon kicked off her cross country season representing Team England at the EnergyVision Cross Cup in Belgium where she finished fifth and second Team England.

Reigate Priory Cross Country Relays, Reigate, Surrey (Sat. 2nd Nov.)

This event in which teams of four each run a leg of 2.5 miles has long been a club favourite but this was the first time for some years that we took a team that was genuinely competitive. It is a great course; initial impressions are inauspicious, it just looks like any other municipal park, but before you know it you are winding your way up through the woods before finally emerging onto a ridge of downland with views towards London on your left and across the Surrey countryside to the right. A good downhill gallop and you are back in the park and handing over to the next runner.

Woody got us off to a great start running the 11th best leg of the day to leave us in 5th position before handing over to Luke Ford, promoted to the A team on account of Mattia Bernardi being sick. We lost a handful of places but Liam McLaughlin won most of them back on the third leg, the 6th fastest of the day. James Macdonald was next, 12 fastest leg to leave us 4th team, an agonising two seconds off third.

There was a B team too: Foy Ahmed and Clem Dixon trundled round before Alex Mallen took things up a couple of gears. It seems that every Saturday we welcome at least one more new member and Alex seemed to enjoy his first outing in Club colours. Luke's promotion to the A team didn't let him off the hook of running the anchor leg for the B team and he took us up to a respectable 20th from 39 men's teams.

Cambridge Harriers A - Joseph Wood 15:11, Luke Ford 16:39, Liam McLaughlin 14:46, James Macdonald 15:15; Cambridge Harriers B - Foyez Ahmed 20:21, Clem Dixon 21:12, Alex Mallen 17:43, Luke Ford 17:57.

Ray Hall Winter League/Surrey WC Open Track Walks, Tonbridge (Sat. 2nd Nov.)

The Southern Area Championships were held in conjunction, where Hannah Hopper (U23) secured senior women's 5000m silver in 24:52.5s just a handful of seconds outside her personal best.

RunThrough Greenwich Park 10k/5k (Sat. 2nd Nov.)

Three of the clubs road runners participated in this local event on a hilly course in Greenwich Park. Jonathan Sargent came away with a win, clocking 38:15 with Russell Buchannan recording 1:00:06. In the 5k Joanna Parke finished in 27:22 and first W45.
